Disclaimer:
I do not own the characters in the fiction.
The story is only a narrative and does not involve any real life
situation. The whole plot of the story
is written originally by myself. If
there's any similarity to other fictions, it is totally a coincidence.
Who knows that I have to face such things in my life? One after another and that makes me feels all surprised and quite losing my focus. How can I do not know my own life story? My late parents are mysterious. They told me nothing when they were alive, or perhaps I was too young at that time to perfectly understand everything. Being involved in the world of vampires is a whole new world for me, and there’s still a lot to learn. Sometimes, I just think that I’m being too slow in dragging myself through this world. I hope I’m already sprinting in knowing things, but I’m still crawling.
Knowing Choi Siwon is one thing, but knowing his life is something more flabbergasting. I mean, now I know how vampire stories had been my bedtime story before. Now I know where my father got all the stories that I believed before, never existed in this world. They were friends for so long already, my parents and Siwon. That is the perfect answer to all this puzzle. I still remember our conversation that night.
“Ji Yong and I were good friends. I was there when he got married to your mom. That was when I was introduced to Chae Rin and had been good friends since then,” said Siwon.
“They knew you’re vampire?” my sister asked.
“They did know. But, they kept it secret; I mean the whole thing about me. That was what made me close to them. They were reliable,” he told us with sorrowful eyes and sad tone.
“What made you my godfather?” I asked.
“I was there when you were born and actually helped Chae Rin to give birth. And Ji Yong made me your godfather. I was more than happy to accept that position, for a vampire like me to be a godfather to a human like you is a great pleasure. Everything was fine and the happiness was in the family until that tragedy happened,” he said with a drop of tear at the corner of his left eye.
“I would be glad if you told me what happened. It seems you really know the whole story of them,” I said giving hint to him to tell everything.
“But-”
“I’m an adult now and ready to accept the fact that it was all tragic and sad,” I said after he looked hesitate to tell me everything.
“What about Seraphina?” he asked again.
“I’m an adult too. Look. You can just tell us everything so that it will be clear,” said her.
“I can’t believe it that you are all adult now. I mean, the last time I saw you was the time when you were five and your sister was two,” said Siwon.
My sister and I looked at each other. We had the same thought. Siwon is really a good person and I believed he really is my godfather. My father wouldn’t let a bad person be my godfather, would he?
“I told him the story of my family and I, about vampires. He decided to make it into a book, after he knew the Chois were feeding themselves with human blood. He didn’t make it looked horrible though, just the facts about us. He even asked for my permission to publish the first book. He wouldn’t do it if I didn’t permit it. But, the thing was I permitted it in the first place. I feel the guilt until today. If I didn’t permit it, I’m sure he won’t be killed,” he said while looking somewhere unfocused, the old memories flooding back in his mind.
“I’m sorry to hear about that...I just...that was tragic,” said Seraphina.
“It was just an old story...” said Siwon.
“And I think I know what happened before that. The Evil Choi knew you’re in a position to be responsible of your act on telling human his story. He killed you for that. But, the thing that I am curious to know is why suddenly he decided to save you?” asked Jonghyun.
“I was not sure at first, but after that I knew that he wanted to use me. I was close to human society and he used me to tell him human whereabouts. I have strong sense towards human and I can locate the exact place of your location. But, after all, I lied to him a lot, and that was why I was jailed in a dungeon and tortured by the other Choi who were his follower,” said Siwon.
“Interesting...he saved you to use you again, against your own friends,” Jonghyun said.
The conversation we had that night really opens my eyes and makes me realise how the world is really dirty. The criminal is not only among human, but also among other creature in this world.
“I’ve already told you that the case is already closed. We solved it all,” Jonghyun’s voice shatters my thought into pieces. And now I realise I’m back in my office with pile of work need to be done.
“How can the case be closed easily like that?” I hear another voice. Young Bae’s.
Then, two absolutely handsome guys enter the office room. I see Jonghyun and Young Bae. I don’t mind Jonghyun here, he starts working again three days ago, right after he recovered from his weird illness. However, Young Bae is from a different unit from us. We’re from the Special Operation unit, while he is working in the Investigation unit of MIS.
“Young Bae, just trust us in this okay? The case is no ordinary, and we had it all solved. And furthermore, the case is labelled ‘TOP SECRET’ for Special Operation Unit. So, it is under our responsibility. Our head department, Taemin already announced it closed. I hope I have made it all clear to you,” says Jonghyun again.
“I know that it is closed, and Taemin announced it closed. But, this case was put under the Investigation unit at first. Thus, I need to make sure that this case is already completed,” says Young Bae firmly.
“Yeah...okay...the case is completed. I told you about it already...so, I hope you can bring it to the Head of Investigation Unit,” Jonghyun says it again.
“Fine...but I can sense something fishy here...I’ll investigate what’s wrong with this unit and bring it to the CEO of the MIS,” Young Bae says and he leaves the office. Jonghyun sighs and smiles after he leaves the room.
“What’s up?” I ask him.
“Nothing. Young Bae is just getting too exaggerated when it comes to the Siwon’s case that Sooyoung took from his unit,” Jonghyun says while shaking his head.
“Why should he?” I ask again.
“You know...the case is closed after we solved it, after we knew that it involves vampires. So, for the sake of human safety it is better for us to just keep the case a secret. Taemin and Onew labelled it as ‘TOP SECRET’ and consider the case solved,” explains Jonghyun.
“What makes him too exaggerated? The case is closed and...I don’t understand...”I say.
“Hey, honey! Come back to your sense. The case is closed without any report about the criminal and not even has the suspect. As you know...Young Bae is our classmate, and you know how curious he is when working on a case. A case without the exact result can drive him nut,” says Jonghyun while smirking.
“And we cannot tell him our suspect. He doesn’t know that these vampires thing that involving our lives is actually existed,” I say. That’s pretty bad for Young Bae.
“Exactly...and we couldn’t tell him, or else, the whole human society will live in hell,” Jonghyun says while playing with his gun.
“That makes sense. Well...I am a bit slower than usual, am I not?” I ask Jonghyun.
“What are you talking about? You are not slow...but always slow,” says Jonghyun teasing me.
“Hey! Can you tolerate a girl like me just for a while? I’ve done my job and even covered your job pretty well during your absent time. The just proved that I am as good as you now,” I say, defending myself.
“Oh shut up...I was absent only for a while and you’re making the whole thing look good on you. Anyway...you’re improving,” says Jonghyun.
I smile. His praise makes up my day. I continue staring at him. Just then, I notice blood on his head.
“Hey, Jonghyun. What’s wrong? You’re bleeding on your head!” I say while moving towards his table.
Jonghyun looks at me with surprise and touches his head very gently. Then, he notices the blood on his finger, still red and fresh.
“Oh yes, blood,” he says shockingly calm.
“Where are you from actually? I thought you’re from the Investigation Unit office,” I say while examining his wound.
“No. I am just coming back from an operation, a human-trade syndicate at the port,” he says.
“Oh, dear. You are injured pretty badly,” I say.
“Normal for people like us. Can you help me clean it? We have a mission together after this,” says Jonghyun.
“Stop talking about work for a while. You’re injured, okay. Anyway, what makes it like this?” I ask him, a bit worried.
“I think it was the blow I received from the gang member. They hit me with a baseball bat on my head,” Jonghyun tells me.
“Wow! That’s a bad one,” I say while cleaning the wound.
“Not really for me,” Jonghyun says while checking a file.
“Do you think Siwon feel the blow as well?” I ask. He flinches a bit when I press the clean bandage on his head.
“Definitely,” he says, still studying the contents of the file.
“Where are we going after this?” I ask him for our next mission. Then, I put a masking tape on it and it is all done.
“A hospital,” he says.
“Why? I already cleaned your wound. I’m asking the next mission of ours,” I say.
“Yes, we’re heading towards the hospital to investigate on a case of a heart problem. Not to clean my wound,” Jonghyun says while laughing.
“Heart problem? We’re no doctors,” I say, but I have already been dragged by Jonghyun to the hospital. The next thing I know is I am already at a building which is all white inside.
“Dr. Ji Eun, we’re here to investigate on your report regarding the three patients who have the same heart problem almost at the same time. The coincidence drives the curiosity inside you,” says Jonghyun while examining a document in his file.
“Yes, and as recommended by Dr. Hyori, I reported the case to MIS to be investigated,” says her firmly. Judging from her characteristic, I could tell that she is a very firm woman, like Hyori. Are doctors all like this?
“Would you like to explain the situation more clearly?” asks Jonghyun while giving me a sign to ready with my pen and notebook.
“Sure. I was on my late duty that night and suddenly I was called to the ER unit regarding a case of heart dysfunction. When I attended the patient, another patient was rolled in with the same problem. I was panic because I needed to work on two patients with the same heart problem. And while I was in the battle of mind in which patient should I attend first, another patient was rolled in with the same problem. Luckily, another comrade of mine was called in by a nurse to help,” she says it in a very serious tone.
“We attended our patients and found out that all of them were having problem with their artificial pacemakers. All of them stopped working and dysfunction. This coincidence makes me think again on the possibility of it not to be a coincidence after all. Perhaps, the pacemaker is a problem in this case, because the pacemakers used by my three patients come from the same company,” Dr. Ji Eun tells us her suspicion. I jot down all her reports.
“Well...it might not be coincidence, perhaps the pacemakers are problematic. But, I just need to confirm beforehand, where did the three patients go before they were admitted to the ER?” asks Jonghyun.
“From the report of the MA, the first patient was coming out from a bookstore when he suddenly collapsed. The second one was collapsed right in front of the library after having his study group. And the third one was coming out from a shopping complex when he suddenly gave out,” says Ji Eun.
“Owh...so they were coming out from different places,” I say while write down what the beautiful doctor says. When, I’m done I give the notebook to Jonghyun. He takes it and read all the report. He sits very still, his usual condition when he is investigating and thinking.
“I hope that yo-”
“Shhh...” I hush her. She looks quite surprised of my rude silent gesture, but after all she understands what I mean when I look at Jonghyun who is thinking very hard right now.
“I think it is not a coincidence. And Dr. Ji Eun, I hope you can prepare a report to sue the company under medical law,” says Jonghyun confidently.
“Are you sure? You have confidence in that?” asks Ji Eun.
“I’m hundred percent sure. Your three patients were coming out from three different places: bookstore, library, and shopping complex, which use electronic devices to detect the presence of unpaid things. I’m afraid the detectors have the same frequency as the pacemakers, and causing resonance to happen to the pacemaker indicating a disturbance and causing it to dysfunction. Thus, all of them fainted right after they went through the detectors located at the exit door of the respective places. The problem is not with the detectors, but with the pacemakers. The company should have known about this pacemaker, and should have banned the production, but they continue producing it for the consumer. That is definitely a wrong deed,” Jonghyun says confidently.
“You’re quite fast, Mr. Detective,” says the doctor.
“Jonghyun, just call me Jonghyun,” Jonghyun says, and I don’t know why, but I fell jealous towards her.
“Well, thanks Jonghyun for your help and also Miss...”
“Sabrina,” I say in a very friendly tone.
“Thanks for your help,” she says while looking to both of us.
“No problem. I’ll send the report to my headquarters and we will make further investigation on the company,” says Jonghyun. We shake hands and Jonghyun quickly drives to our MIS headquarters. In the lift, we talk about the case again.
“Looks like our company are having back its best agent. You were fast just now,” I say, sincerely complimenting him. He smirks.
“Not really...remember I took double major in university? Criminology and Science,” he says.
“Still...you’re really great...”
“Well...thanks,” he says.
“And you were very friendly with the female doctor just now,” I say, with a pang of jealousy in my heart.
“Whoa! Whoa! Sabrina, don’t be jealous. You’re my fiancĂ©. You should trust me and I’ll never betray our relationship,” Jonghyun says while holding my hand.
“I trust you, but as a girl I just...feel very jealous,” I don’t know why suddenly I become a bit too possessive of him.
“I’m sorry...” he says.
“No need to be sorry. Anyway, what are you going to do with the case after this?” I ask him.
“I’ll send this case to the Investigation Unit for further investigation,” he says. I just nod. The lift’s door becomes ajar when we reach our floor.
We walk towards our office. We open the door and right after that a fellow colleague shouts to both of us.
“Jonghyun! Sabrina! The lovebirds are back. Just now someone called the office to speak to either both of you or Sooyoung,” says our friend.
“Then?” Jonghyun asks her.
“Sooyoung wasn’t here just now and so were you guys. So, he told me to make sure you check your inbox,” she says.
“Oh, thanks for the message,” I say and quickly go to my table. Jonghyun does the same thing. We check our email inbox.
“Jonghyun!”
“Sabrina!” we shout synchronously.
We get an email from our old school: The Academy of Brainiacs!
