Chapter 3: The Wedding

Rating: PG-13
Characters: SHINee and fictionals
Disclaimer: I do not own the characters in the fiction.  The story is only a narrative and does not involve any real life situation.  The whole plot of the story is written originally by myself.  If there's any similarity to other fictions, it is totally a coincidence.

I’m in my room, dressing up for the wedding which will be held in a few minutes time.  The guests are already waiting outside, ready to be one of the witnesses for Onew’s and Jiyeon’s marriage.  For us, it maybe just a wedding, to unite a man and a woman as husband and wife.  But, for the couple that is going to get married, this will be the most historic event in their life.  It is just the new beginning for them, and they will always have faith in each other to keep their marriage in harmony.

I always think about this, life after marriage.  Husband and wife carry their own responsibilities, to lead a very harmonious family.  It is magic, isn’t it, for everything?  The love between them, it won’t fade even after death takes place.  I imagine that Onew and Jiyeon will be having a very good relationship, such they are very lovely and understanding towards each other.  I can’t avoid myself to feel very envious, but I always pray the best for them.

Even during the preparation of the wedding, the soon-to-be bride and groom helped us a lot.  They should be the treated by us, but their willingness to help was a pleasure to all of us.  Truthfully, we were shorthanded.  Sooyoung were busy with work that she cannot help us with the last preparation which was the decoration.  Taemin was also busy with his work in carrying the burden of the Special Operation Unit in MIS.  Uee was quite busy with her books and novels but still trying to help though.  Minzy and HyunA were busy preparing with their new movie.

That left only a few people for the decorating job.  But, what made it worse was we had to exclude Jonghyun from any duty.  The preparation of the wedding was going on, and Jonghyun felt sick, terribly sick.  He had a very high fever and he lost appetite on food.  Hyori tried her best to cure him, but Hyori said his case was different.  Jonghyun got a normal fever, not a really contagious one, but it happened that the fever was very high that it was able to assassinate him.

Hyori and I were sometimes excluded from the decorating duty, which made it worse for my sister, but we indeed need to look after Jonghyun.  Nonetheless, Hyori and I exchanged shift within decorating and to look after Jonghyun.

And today, it is still disastrous.  Jonghyun is not yet recover, instead he is getting worse.  Despite the fact that he is sick, he is still being very stubborn and wants to present at the wedding.  He uses his lame excuse not to be on bed by saying it is only once in a lifetime he will see Onew’s wedding.  Hyori argues with him, but he insists.  There’s no use speaking with Kim Jonghyun because he will always win the arguments.

Anyway, after I have done dressing up from top to toe, I walk to his room to check on him.  Hyori told me to check on him as frequent as we can, because she is afraid that he could faint in any minute.  He did faint a few times during the preparation, and that brought his activity in helping to a halt.  Hyori strictly kept him on provision and he himself was not strong enough to even be on his knees.  That was the reason why he was excluded from all the preparation duties.

I knock on his door and wait for reply.  I’m sure he is done with bathing and now he is already halfway dressing up.  I wait, but there’s no answer.  Then, I knock again.

“Kim Jonghyun?!  Are you inside?” I ask stupidly at the door.  Where the hell is he?  Suddenly, I hear the crack of door’s hinge and then the door opens, revealing everything inside.

“Yeah...I’m here,” he says with a smile.  There is no use though.  I look at his pale face, and even his voice is very hoarse.  I’m right.  He is halfway dressing up.

“Why are you taking so long to open the door?  You make me worry,” I say as I walk in and close the door.  I hold his hand.  It is very hot.  I bring him to his bed.

“I fell asleep just now.  I feel tired,” he explains.  I look at his eyes.  There are huge eye bags under his eyes.  I pity him.  I really care about him especially he is my fiancé.

“Jonghyun...don’t force yourself too hard.  Just lie down and rest, okay?” I ask him while I wipe his face with a wet towel from his bedside table.

In return, he pushes my hand off his face and gives his feeble smile.

“I’m okay...don’t worry too much, will you?” he says, trying to demolished the piles of worry in my heart.  How could I, Jonghyun?  How could I not feel worry?

“You’re my...fiancé,” there is a bit of hesitation and embarrassment in my voice, but I go on with my words, “I always worry too much about you.”

“I’m okay...” he says again, in a not-so-convincing voice.  He is very weak, I could tell from the first look at him.  His eyes are unfocused, and he looks like he really wants to sleep.

And I’m right.  He suddenly lies down on his sides and closes his eyes immediately.  What makes it worse; he is shivering and trembling worse than a leaf.

“Sabrina...I’m tired,” he admits at last.

“Then...just stay in the room and rest,” I try to persuade him to be in the room and rest for the whole the day.

“I can’t,” he answers shortly.

“Why?  Everybody wants you to rest, Jonghyun.  Why the hell you force yourself to be up and about and attend the wedding?  I insist, you rest, okay?” I say quite strictly this time, be concerned by his current condition.

“Onew...he is already like a brother to me.  I won’t forgive myself if I don’t attend the wedding.  It is once in a lifetime,” he says.  I sigh.

“Jonghyun...” I’m quite speechless.  I have no clue on what I should do.

“Sabrina...I feel like...” Jonghyun says and he closes his eyes.  I start to worry even more.  I hold his shoulder gently.

“You feel like what?  Throwing up?” I blurt out.  Damn.  Do I not have a better thing to say rather than throwing up?  Shoot!

“Hey...no...not throwing up, you silly,” he says, chuckling.  Owh...at least I could see him smiling again, this time, genuine, not forced.  He even laughs, even sounds very weak, at least he laughs.  He gets up from lying and continues laughing.  I smile at the sight of him.

“You’re funny dear,” he says.  I notice he is too weak too even laugh, when he coughs violently after that.  I quickly stand up and rub his back to ease the pain.  His face turns very red and he experiences difficulty in breathing.

“Jonghyun!  Jonghyun!!!  Are you alright?!” I am trembling worse than him.  I am scared, scared of seeing Jonghyun suffering, scared of losing him, either in front of my eyes or anywhere around the world.

“I’m okay...” he says after a while.  He is back to normal, and his face is no longer red, it turns very white, pale, and paler than his usual vampire skin is.

“You sure?” I ask, still stroking his back gently.  He pulls me to sit in front of him and smiles an assuring smile.

“Jonghyun...I want to ask something,” I say.

“What is it, dear?” he says very gently.  Oh God!  I love him even more...please...I don’t want to melt.

“You’re actually very cold...I mean your skin is always icy cold.  But, now I could feel it is hot...burning whenever I touch you.  Do vampires get very hot whenever they are having fever?  Or sick?” I ask.  I’ve been wondering about it since the first day Jonghyun is sick, but I keep it at heart.  I never see the others having fever, this is the first case.  My brain has been working on the answer since then; even I read the book that my father wrote, The True Legend for reference. But still, I couldn’t find the answer.

He laughs.

“Sabrina...it’s me...only me.  I mean vampires never get sick.  Never.  Unless they are injured.  I am half of it, and part of me is still human.  That’s why I eat what you eat, and I can get sick.  Because I am still a human.  Most of my physical features, the pale icy cold skin, predator’s eyes, mostly are vampires’ but my lips aren’t blood red, unless I choose to drink blood.  My inner organs are functioning like human’s do, because of the food I choose to consume.  And I can get sick like a normal human does and whenever fever attacks me, my temperature will increase like a normal human does,” he says.

I nod.  I understand.

“Why you choose to consume human’s food?”

“Because that is what I really am.  I just...maybe... ‘more fortunate’ that I turned to a vampire.  Hyun Joong and Hyori want me to be who I really belong to and that’s it,” he says.

I am stunned.  He is still a human, just half a vampire.  I almost forget about that.

“Just now...you say...you feel like something?  What?” I say.  His smile diminishes and I think I have said the wrong words.  I curse myself.

“I feel like...I just don’t feel like...myself,” he says.  Huh?  I don’t understand.

“What?”

“I mean...I feel very weak...very sick...no matter how much I try to fight it.  I feel like...this fever...it just doesn’t belong to me...I dunno...” he says.  I am getting confused.  I look at my watch and we only have a few minutes left before the wedding starts but I want to listen to him.

“Jonghyun...I’m getting confused...” I say.

“You know...I mean...I’m sick on behalf of someone else...I just don’t know...” he says weakly.

“What?  Can it happen?”

“It sounds illogic right?  Well...just forget about what I said.  Let’s get ready,” he says, pushing himself to stand up on his feeble legs and I could see he is shivering from top to toe.

“Jonghyun!” I just happen to save him from collapsing on the hard concrete-tiled floor.

“Thanks...” he says.  I smile back.

“Sabrina...help me to get ready...will you?” he says.  I nod and push him on the bed, ask him to sit.  I gently button up the topmost button on his shirt and put on his tie.  I help him with his coat.  Then, I walk to his closet and take his black leather shoes and give it to him.  He wears the shoes and then, yeah...we are ready for the wedding.

“I look good, aren’t I?” he says with a small laugh.  I feel like crying my heart out.  He tries to smile, even though he isn’t feeling well.  I feel like the pain is stabbing through my heart.

Suddenly, the door opens and revealing Hyori.  She walks in and puts her hand on Jonghyun’s forehead.

“You’re still burning, son,” she says, all polite words.

“I’m okay, mom,” Jonghyun says, trying not to sound too weak in front of her.

“Are you sure you want to join the ceremony?  You better rest.  You are no better than yesterday and I think the best option is to rest,” Hyori says while wiping beads of cold sweat on Jonghyun’s forehead.

“I still have the other option, which is to join the wedding ceremony,” he says naughtily.

“What if I say you have no option than to rest in this room?” Hyori says strictly.

“There are always options for me, mom,” Jonghyun says again.  Hyori sighs.

“Then, we better get going.  The wedding will begin in any minute.  Come on.  I’ll help you outside,” Hyori says.  Both of us walk by Jonghyun’s side, aware with any sign of collapsing from him.

“You look gorgeous today, mom.  Isn’t it, Sabrina?” Jonghyun says.

“Yeah, sure.  You look stunning, m-mom,” I say, still not getting used calling her mom.

“Thanks.  Anyway, Jonghyun...you don’t need to praise me that high because I won’t forget the fact that you are sick and need surveillance all the time.  Sabrina and I will stay by your side throughout the wedding.  And you are ought to just sit down until the wedding is over.

And here we are, at the wedding, witnessing the marriage of Onew and Jiyeon.  I look at the entrance, where Jiyeon is entering with her father.  Their arms are hooking with each other, and happiness is radiated through his old face.  His father is bringing her to the groom, who is waiting in front of the priest, ready to take the bride as wife.

When I see the happiness in Jiyeon’s father, automatically, it reminds me of my own father, who has long ago passed away.  Then, it comes to my mind, how am I going to get married?  Who is going to walk with me, linking arm with me?  The thought of that makes my eyes watery, as I try my best to hide the tears.  But, come back to business; who is going to replace him?  I miss him, as much as the world could contain.  Out of the blue, I feel hotness at my hand before I realise Jonghyun is holding my hand as tender as a mother always does.

“You are thinking of him, aren’t you?” he asks me.  I am stunned, for him being very understanding towards me.

I nod.

“How do you know?” I ask, trying my best to conceal my tears.

“You show the same expression whenever you are remembering him.  I know you, Sabrina,” he says while stroking my hair.

“I just...miss him,” I sigh.

“You know...it’s okay.  Don’t worry...I’ll always be by your side,” he says.

“Will you, Lee Jinki, take, the bride, Park Jiyeon, as your wife?” the priest starts to ask.  Jonghyun and I quickly turn in front to witness the most historical event happens in the garden of the three mansions; where the union of a vampire and a human takes place.

“I, Lee Jinki, take you, Park Jiyeon, to be my lawfully wedded wife, my constant friend, my faithful partner, and my love from this day forward.  In the presence of God, our family and friends, I offer you my solemn vow to be your faithful partner for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, in good times and in bad, and in joy as well as in sorrow.  I promise to love you unconditionally, to support you in your goals, to honour and respect you, to laugh with you and cry with you, and to cherish you as long as we both shall live, until death do us part.”

“Then, will you, Park Jiyeon, take the groom, Lee JInki, as your husband?”

“I, Park Jiyeon, take you, Lee Jinki, to be my lawfully wedded husband, my constant friend, my faithful partner, and my love from this day forward.  In the presence of God, our family and friends, I offer you my solemn vow to be your faithful partner for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, in good times and in bad, and in joy as well as in sorrow.  I promise to love you unconditionally, to support you in your goals, to honour and respect you, to laugh with you and cry with you, and cherish you as long as we both shall live, until death do us part.”

“Any objection to the marriage?” the priest now asks the witnesses.  I swear if any of us object the marriage, I will never look at them into their eyes and I shall kill them with my own hand.  Fortunately, there is nobody.  God doesn’t want me to kill anybody on this beautiful day.

“Then I shall announce Lee Jinki and Park Jiyeon are now husband and wife,” the priest announces happily.

At that exact moment, Onew kisses Jiyeon’s forehead, and I could see tears of happiness trickle down Jiyeon’s rosy white cheeks.  I am happy, really happy for them.  At last, they are united as husband and wife and I hope will forever be.

“Sabrina...take good care of Jonghyun, okay?  I need to entertain our guests,” Hyori says with her sweetest smile.

The moment she leaves us, Jonghyun immediately pulls me into his arm and kisses my forehead with his hot lips.  I can’t stop my tears, not this time.  There’s nobody else in the hall, only us.

“I can’t wait for the vows,” he says.  I nod.

“Will you accept me as your life partner?” he asks again.

“You had asked this the night you proposed me.  And I answered yes.  But, if you want assurance, I shall say yes again.  Yes, Jonghyun...you...only you,” I say with tears.  He wraps me in his arms.

“I know you miss your father...I am very lucky to have one...but you should remember that my real father are killed to.  We share the same fate.  Don’t worry...I’m here...always by your side,” he says.

“Thanks...”  I say.  I stay in his arms for a moment.  After a while, he let me go.

“Feeling better?”

“Yes...much better,” I say.  He smiles.  I am the one who suppose to take care of Jonghyun, but then, the opposite happens.

“Let’s grab something to eat,” he says.  I help him out and we join our guests.  A lot of friends come to the wedding.  Young Bae comes with a huge present.  We laugh together.  Seungri and Daesung come together and congratulate the newlywed couple.  Family and friends, all of them, wishing a long lasting marriage to both Onew and Jiyeon and we are dining together.  We laugh and share the happiness until the end of the day.  I could say that Lee Minho, So Eun and Jiyeon’s parents are the happiest person on the Earth today.

In the evening, Jiyeon’s parents are leaving, after all the guests left.  They are going home while Jiyeon is staying with Onew.

“Take care of your Onew,” her mother reminds her.  Jiyeon promises to do as her mother’s order, while Onew keeps swearing to Jiyeon’s father that he will protect Jiyeon with his life.  Onew sometimes is a bit random, that it drives Jiyeon’s father laughs frantically.  It is a happy yet emotional goodbye.  Tears and joy accompany the departure of Jiyeon’s parents.  That is all.

We are walking back to our mansion, when Jonghyun says something weird.  I thought he is possessed, but then his eyes are very focus and his tone is very serious makes me takes to consider his words.

“Someone is coming...” he says while holding to my shoulder to stand.  He is getting heavier, which indicates that he will pass out anytime from now.

“Jonghyun...are you okay?  Who is coming?  I thought all the guests have left?” I ask him.  Hyun Joong eyes are narrowing and all of us stay alert in case Jonghyun’s words are true.

“He is coming...I guess...from r...no from left...” he says.  All of us turn to our left and at the exact moment, a vampire lands with a loud thud on the soft ground.  He is unconscious.  We are thinking of approaching him when suddenly Jonghyun passes out and lost consciousness.  I quickly save him from receiving the same fate as the other unlucky vampire.

Everything is a chaos after that.

Chapter 2: Preparation

Rating: PG-13
Characters: SHINee and fictionals
Disclaimer: I do not own the characters in the fiction.  The story is only a narrative and does not involve any real life situation.  The whole plot of the story is written originally by myself.  If there's any similarity to other fictions, it is totally a coincidence.

There are a lot of things to do.  I have it listed on my to-do-list.  Just imagine.  I think about the holiday I get, approved by Lee Taemin who is my boss, the Head of Special Operation in MIS.  Looks like my plan is ruined.  Oh Gosh!  Why can’t I have a better holiday?

Look!  At the first place I want to rest from all the busy schedule I have.  I want to enjoy my holiday by sleeping and resting.  I must have some rest.  It is tiring to fight perpetrators, almost losing one tooth and getting bruises and cuts all over my body.  Well, I don’t mind, that’s work.  I’m quite tough though.  But, when I get a leave from my boss, that should be the day for resting.  Seems like that’s a no for me.

First of all, getting ready for Onew’s wedding.  That’s pretty cool.  I mean, I like it.  I don’t mind helping.  We prepare for that together.  Onew is getting married in two weeks time, and all of us are busy preparing for the wedding.

But, the most tiring ever is the whole family is forcing Jonghyun and I to prepare for our marriage too.  It is a problem for both of us.  After the announcement of our engagement, Hyori keeps forcing us to plan our marriage.  Doesn’t mean that I don’t want to do it, but it is not at the right time.  Onew is getting married, and to think about something else is not the best for now.  Furthermore, both Jonghyun and I never say anything about ‘ready to get married’ or something like ‘we’re ready to carry the responsibility as husband and wife’.

Thus, back to the main business, Onew’s wedding.  So Eun doesn’t want to hire any wedding planner.  The idea of a wedding planner will be very bad, because there won’t be any plan for vampires.  What I mean is, the wedding planner won’t include vampires in his plan.

So, the best that we can do right now is to plan the wedding ourselves.  And now we’re working on it.  And so as I am.  It is really good working together for this.  I love it.  I enjoy it although it is quite exhausting.

Speaking about the wedding, Onew and Jiyeon, the soon-to-be-husband-and-wife.  I am really happy for them.  Onew eventually found himself a very pretty girl, very pretty.  She has a very good feature and the most important is she is not a white, pale zombie.  Great!  He found a human girl as wife.

Park Jiyeon, is a very humble girl, she’s a year younger than me.  Well...I don’t mind seeing people younger than me getting married.  Soon, my sister will get married too.  But, Hyori and Seraphina keep reminding me to plan on the wedding date, which is the real reason of the tiring holiday I have.  Forget that, back to business.  To my greatest pleasure, Jiyeon knows who the real Onew is, the chicken-blood-maniac.  She accepts the way Onew is, and so as her parents.  I don’t know how she persuades her parents, it is out of my thoughts, but she is sure a very genius girl.

They are engaged four months ago, after Onew was just finished off one crime case.  Onew met her and proposed her right in front of the public.  I think that is awesome.  Only certain people have the courage to do that, and Onew did that in front of the public.  The marriage proposal was illuminated with a bouquet of roses and a ring.  But, the highlight was when Jiyeon shyly accepted his proposal.  How on Earth could a girl reject such a sweet proposal?  If I were in Jiyeon place, I won’t hesitate, I’ll accept that too.

I’m not proud of it, but I’m glad that Onew’s future wife comes from the human community.  At least, the vampires won’t let the difference between us to be the barrier of the relationship.  The difference has created a huge gap between us and has been the reason of the war.

I hope the fight between us has ended in the last war.  It was really a nightmare to me.  Even sometimes I have to clutch to something when the image of the war flashes into my mind.  It is horrible and something that I really hate being repeated.  Just let the peace take over the world.

Anyway, right now I can see Taemin and Seraphina through the window, arguing over the decoration of the grounds.  Seraphina is in charge of the decoration as she is very good in arts.  Her taste is the best.  All of us know two weeks time means the end of the winter solstice and the beginning of the spring equinox.  I’m sure it will be nice.  The Sun starts to shine brightly throughout the sky and the plants starts to grow green.

So, for the March Equinox, Seraphina chooses the theme of Fairytale Wedding.  I’m sure it will be epic.  Well, it is my sister anyway, who has the best masterpiece in arts.  With horse-drawn carriage and castle-like mansion, I’m sure everything will be perfect.  Moreover, Uee, Minzy and HyunA are helping my sister too.  They are sure very good in those imaginable things.  They are helping my sister to generate ideas on the decoration.

As for food, Hyori, Key, Minho and Seunghyun are in charge.  Key will provide the meat, well...for human’s food, and blood for vampires.  He gives it fresh from his own farm.  I think he is obsessed in this wedding thingy because I could say that he is overexcited by planning to get tonnes of beef for this.  It is really very more than enough, more than the guests that are going to be invited.

Minho and Seunghyun will be packing instant foods from their factory.  That is for things such as finger foods and drinks.  I’m sure they will do a very good job for this.  Well, they are the suppliers of food for human in these mansions anyway.  Hyori is in charge in planning foods for our human guests.  There’s a lot to come.  Colleagues, ex-schoolmates from the Academy of Brainiac and families, especially from Jiyeon’s side will come for the wedding.

Being cooking for human for years makes Hyori an expert in this.  She knows what human eats the best during wedding.  She always being invited to wedding before, I mean the normal human wedding.  She came and made a lot of observations of food, but never eaten.  So, I think we already have the best men in this job.  She’ll plan on the menus, but the caterer will take over the job for cooking.

Lee Minho, So Eun, Hyun Joong and Ji Woo will manage the reception and greeting.  I think we choose the perfect one for this.  The adults will know how to handle these things.  Especially Lee Minho and Hyun Joong, they are very often mixed with human and work with us, so they will know the best way to approach both sides.  Moreover, it is Lee Minho’s son getting married.  Thus, I think the father itself will be the best person to greet people at the main gate.

As for me, not forgetting my beloved Jonghyun, we’re in charge of invitation.  I don’t know why, but I think it is because we have the greatest interpersonal skill among all.  We know the best words for the invitation.  So, or job is quite boring.  Well, everyday, I sit in front of the laptop and wondering of the design of the invitation cards and the persuading words.  So, I’ll always be on the study room and do my work, without joining the enjoyable sight of the others working outdoors.

Sometimes, Jonghyun will join me.  But, not often.  He covers my work as I am on leave.  The company cannot afford to have too little agent while crimes are widespread out there.  He is too busy and sometimes comes home very late at night or just stay at the office to finish the job.  I feel sorry for him, but Jonghyun keeps telling me that he’s okay.  He wants me to stay at home and finish our job for this wedding.

I think he has overworked.  Jonghyun looks very sick recently.  He is not really in a good condition to spy on people or to investigate.  I don’t know why, he caught a cold a few weeks ago and still not yet recover, and yesterday, suddenly he was assassinated with high fever.  Luckily, Taemin and Onew quickly find another agent to replace him at work and take over his job.  I feel guilty and I offer to go to work, but they say that everything is settled at the office.

Jonghyun is resting in his room and I stay there beside him, in case he needs anything.  I bring along my laptop, not forgetting my job as the inviter.  I have to finish the invitation too.  So I’m doing my work here to keep checking on Jonghyun.  He is sleeping, so I don’t dare disturb his rest.  I just keep going on with the invitation.  The names to be invited are ready on list.  I’m going to send it through email and manual post.  That is my plan with Jonghyun.

“I’m sorry...” I hear a voice.  I lift up my face and I see Jonghyun is trying to push himself up.

“No, dear...stay in bed.  You’re ill,” I say as I stand up and walk towards the bed.  I prevent him from sitting up.  He lies back on the bed.

“I’m seriously sorry, Sabrina...” he says weakly.

“No...no...it’s okay.  I can do it alone.  I should be sorry.  I mean, you take all my case.  You overworked and get sick.  It’s all my fault,” I say.

“Sabrina...it’s not your fault I get sick,” Jonghyun says calmly and gives me a very soothing smile.

“You rest, okay?” I stroke his burning forehead.  He smiles.

“What time is it?” he asks me.

                “It’s ten.”

“Oh...I wake up very late.  This is so wrong,” he says while trying to sit up again.  I help him this time.

“It’s okay, Jonghyun.  You need rest,” I say.  He chuckles.

“I’m okay,” he replies.  Then I remember that he is not yet eaten.

“Jonghyun...I’ll get something for you to eat,” I say as I go to the door and get out of the room.

I go downstairs and straightaway move to the kitchen.  I see nobody else except for someone.  The one who is very cute and pretty at the same time.  She is sitting on a chair and looks like she is cooking something.

                “Hey, Jiyeon!” I greet her.

                “Unnie!” she replies excitedly.

“So, how’s wedding preparation?  Have you seen your wedding dress?” I ask.  She nods vigorously.

“How’s Jonghyun-shi?” she asks.  I smile at her.

                “He’s awake,” I say.

“I cook rice porridge for him.  Onew told me that he is not well.  By the way...he eats human’s food right?” Jiyeon asks, making a very cute, childish face.

“Yes, Jiyeon.  He eats human’s food.  By the way, you cook for him?” I ask her.

“Yes.  Onew told me that Jonghyun-shi is sick.  So, since I’m not busy with things, I guess I should cook something healthy for him.  I’m afraid you and Hyori are too busy, so, it is better that I make it to lessen your burden,” says Jiyeon respectfully.  I definitely love this girl.

“Owh,” that’s the only thing that can come out from my mouth.

“So...you want to find food for Jonghyun, right?” Jiyeon asks me.  I am struck instantly, but then, I manage to get everything under control.

“Yes...I would like to take the porridge,” I say gently.  She smiles as she moves towards the cabinet to take a bowl.  Then, she moves to the stove.

“Thanks, Jiyeon,” I say while I look at her.  She is pouring some porridge into the bowl.

“No big deal,” she says.  From that, I know that Onew is very lucky to get her as wife.

She pours some more porridge until the bowl is full.  Then, she moves towards a drawer and takes a spoon.  She puts both the bowl full of porridge and the spoon onto a tray.  Then, she gets a glass and pours water into it.  When it is full, she stops and puts the glass onto the tray.  She brings them to me after she finishes with the meal.

“Jonghyun is a nice guy.  Take care of him,” Jiyeon says while handing me the meal.  I am stunted for a while, but then I realise that she is giving me the tray.  I take it from her.

“How do you know?” I ask her.  She is quite observant.

“Onew told me.  Furthermore, it is my own opinion after I came here a few times.  When I look at him, the way he works, the way he treats his family and friends, and most importantly, the way he treats you, he never has waste anybody in his life,” Jiyeon says tenderly with her soothing smile.

                “I will,” I nod.

“Oh!  By the way, it is chicken porridge okay?  Quick, bring it to him, and don’t forget the prescription from Hyori-shi,” she says.

“Yeah, thanks.  Really.  Thanks a lot,” I say.  She smiles again before I turn away and bring the meal to Jonghyun’s room.

I use my other hand to open the door.  I step inside and I see him lying on the bed.  He is sleeping again.  Did I take too long?  Well, maybe.  I talk a lot with Jiyeon just now.  I put the tray on the bedside table.  I want to wake him up, but I hesitate for a while.  However, I come to my logic that he should eat to take his prescription.

“Jonghyun...wake up,” I say while tenderly shake his shoulder.  He opens his eyes and smiles.

                “Oh, I’m sorry.  I’m sleeping again...I just...so tired,” he says.  I smile.

“It’s okay, Jonghyun.  I know,” I say.  Then, I help him sitting.  While helping him, the receptors in my skin detect the hotness of Jonghyun’s skin.

“You’re burning, Jonghyun,” I say after I help him.  He laughs a small and weak laugh.

“Then, what do you expect?” he asks me.  His tone is heard joking with his small laugh and I am relieved to know that he can laugh.  At least I know that he still can keep on joking.  His fever is not harming him, maybe just making him more exhausted than usual.

“No...I am just worrying too much,” I say.

“Worrying too much can make you older faster, Sabrina,” he says while giving his gorgeous smile to me.  Unconsciously, I immediately touch my cheek.  Then, only I realise my action.  I flush red.

“Jonghyun-ah, you need to eat.  Then, you can take your medication,” I say, quickly change the topic.  Then, I give him the porridge and the spoon.  He takes it.

“See?  You’re red whenever I tease you,” he says.  I slap him softly at his shoulder.

“You should just eat, or else, I’ll kick this food to your face,” I threaten him, which I know won’t give him even a very little effect of it.

“I’m sure you won’t do it.  You never do that to sick people,” he says, “Especially me!” he continues the words with a whisper, but it is loud enough for me to hear him.

“What the...” I leave him and move to my laptop.  Jonghyun can be very teasing, sometimes.  He just loves to see me redden and then add some more tease into it.  He is naughty, but I know he is just playing jokes with me.  And I appreciate his fondness.

I can hear his small laugh, but then, both of us do our own work.  He eats while I do my work.  The cards are ready to be printed.  I have to give the soft copy to Sooyoung so that she can print it out.  She will help me with the delivery.  We have her to print out the cards and help to send it to the courier service to be delivered.  We agree on not to put too much burden onto Sooyoung because she is not having any leave, thus she needs to work.  And her case is not in the office, but to spy on a crime syndicate of illegal human trade.

Well, actually, we don’t want to give her any job at all, as we are afraid she might have to bear the burden herself, but stubbornly, she wants to at least done a part in this wedding.  Thus, I offer her to print out the invitation cards and send it to the courier service while she is on her way to the investigation site.  It is easier for her that way.  And easier for me too!  I just need to send this invitation card online.  That’s better.

I admit that working in front of the laptop for hours is such an eye-soring activity, but it makes my life easier in a way.  I have the email on my list and one click, the invitation is sent to hundred guests.  Done!  I’m finish with it.  I can help other people outdoors.  But, not for today.

                “Are you done, Jonghyun?”

“Yes,” he answers me with a very feeble voice.  I walk towards him.

“Have you taken your medicine?” I ask him again.

“Not yet,” he says as he takes a few pills on the tray and put all of them into his mouth.  He drinks the water from the glass and swallows them at once.

“Now I’m done,” he says while smiling to me.  I take the glass from him and put it back on the tray.  Then, I put the tray onto the bedside table.  I take a seat beside him on the bed.  I check on his temperature using the back of my hand.

“Jonghyun...I think your fever is getting worse,” I say as I can feel the increase in heat through his body.

“I’m okay.  By the way, how’s the invitation?  I’m sorry for not helping at all,” Jonghyun says with a small cough.

“I’m done with that.  The other part is Sooyoung’s.  She’ll do that.  So, don’t worry too much,” I say.

“I feel guilty I didn’t help,” he says again with a sigh.

“Who say you’re not helping?  You designed the card, and helped me with the words.  That’s considered helping,” I say.

“I don’t know.  It is just that...I feel so wrong,” he says while holding his head.

“Jonghyun...you better lie down and stop thinking too much,” I say, worrying too much.  He looks very sick and very pale.

“Sabrina...” he says while clutching his head very hard, with his eyes close very tight.  I’m not blind and I’m not stupid.  I notice that something bad is going on.  I could sense that.

“Jonghyun...are you okay?” I ask him as I become a little bit clumsy.  What’s going on here?  I’m really worried.

“It’s throbbing...painful...” he whispers to me.  I could see cold sweat is running down his forehead.

“Jonghyun!” I shout when he suddenly lost consciousness and collapses to me.  Luckily, I’m there to prevent him from falling off the bed and hit the solid, concrete floor.

                “Hyori!!!”

Chapter 1: Engaged

Rating: PG-13
Characters: SHINee and fictionals
Disclaimer: I do not own the characters in the fiction.  The story is only a narrative and does not involve any real life situation.  The whole plot of the story is written originally by myself.  If there's any similarity to other fictions, it is totally a coincidence.

I walk down the stairs lazily, as my eyes still stinging from the lack of sleep.  Last night was the best.  Having lots of fun, unaware of the time moving really fast left us only a few hours to sleep.  I want to blame him, but I can’t.  He was the reason I stayed up last night, and he is the reason I wake up this morning.

When I woke up just now, my sister was not there.  She woke up earlier this time, without any attempt to disturb my sleep.  I woke up by myself and cleaned up, before heading downstairs.  And now, I am walking down the stairs expecting to see somebody to greet, but none comes to my sight.

It is weird though, nobody in this big mansion as always.  Maybe they are already at the kitchen.  I walk there only to find her, Hyori.  As usual, she is preparing the breakfast for the three families, together with Ji Woo and So Eun.

“Hello, honey.  You’re up!” Hyori greets me first, cheerfully.  It makes up my day though, despite it is almost injuring my eardrum.  Her voice is at the most high-pitch this morning.  Why?  Don’t ask me.  Maybe she is in a very good mood.

                “Hi, Hyori,” I greet back.

“Aha!  Sabrina!  How many times should I remind you?  Stop calling me Hyori.  Just call me mom.  You are my future in-law,” she reminds me again.  It has been five years; I’ve been reminded with the same thing.  My cheeks flushed a red tomato, due to the not-sure-yet word from Hyori, ‘in-law’.  Thanks anyway, that’s precious.

“Owh...see...she is blushing!” So Eun teases me.  Cool yeah, So Eun?  Aren’t you supposed to be at my side?  I curse myself for waking up ‘too early’ to be with this group of women at the kitchen, who love to tease me.  I love it sometimes, but sometimes it can annoy me as much.

“Sabrina...ignore them.  You have me,” as though knowing what swims is my mind right now, Ji Woo doesn’t join their gossips.

“I don’t mind,” I say, giving them my sweet, morning smile.  Hyori then gets back to work.  She is a very good cook, I have to admit.  Not a human, but knows how to cook, that should be complimented.  Before I involve with their lives, Hyori told me that she only cooks for Jonghyun.  She is now happy that my sister and I live with them, not forgetting my friends.

“Where are the others?” I ask the three of them, assuming they should be able to give me the answer.

“Well...the adults as usual, go for their morning exercise,” So Eun says.  Sure.  That would be Kim Hyun Joong, Lee Minho and Choi Seunghyun.  They always do morning exercise, as though that is a duty.

I’m not really sure what they did.  Jogging?  Too normal, I mean, it is for human.  Maybe something like running 50 000 km non-stop?  That will be something fun for them to do.  I smile to myself.

“Key is calling the others, together with your sister,” Ji Woo is telling me their whereabouts.  I nod.

                “Jonghyun?” I ask.

                “Jonghyun, he i-”

“I’m here,” somebody cuts Hyori’s words.  I almost jump out of shock.  The voice comes from somewhere behind me.  I turn to see Jonghyun, handsome and adorable as ever.

“You scare me,” I sigh.  I can hear his faint laugh.  It is an awkward moment for us, which I hope the others won’t realise, especially with those in the kitchen.  Surely, I will be teased again.

“Of course.  I’m half a ghost,” says Jonghyun with a small laugh.  I roll my eyes once I hear his words.

“Yeah...sure Jonghyun.  Where were you just now?  I believe you always wake up very early?” I ask him.  Don’t tell me he wakes up late because of last night too.  That will be so illogic.  Jonghyun is not that type.  Just mention how late he sleeps, he will always wake up very early in the morning.

“I take a morning walk,” he says.

“Yeah, I know right?  Morning walk and...morning fly,” I say while moving to the dining table.

“Hey.  How did you know?” asks Jonghyun.  I roll my eyes and pick up a small trace of feather on his shoulder.

“Here.  The feather,” I show him the feather from his own wings.

“You’re pretty good in investigating huh?  You can even see the smallest trace of evidence.  But that feather can be belonged to a chicken from Key’s farm.  Maybe I walked there this morning,” he says coolly and shrugs.  Here it comes again.  He is testing my skill again.

Jonghyun always asks me questions, to test how far my skill is in investigating.  I’m glad that he is concern, but sometimes that makes me feel like he has this sort of lack-of-trust feeling towards me.  However, I always gain his trust, because I am skilled enough to answer his extravaganza questions.  What is the used of being trained in intelligence for years if I can’t answer those questions?

“Then, explain the diamond glittering on the feather.  That sort of weird thing only belongs to your feather,” I say while raising one of my brows.  He laughs this time, a genuine laugh.

“That’s my girl!” he says, pinching my cheek gently, leaving me with heart beating uncontrollably.

He then takes my left hand and looks at my ring finger.  There’s a ring there, a silver ring with a diamond decorating it.  He smiles when he looks at it.  Sure, he is.  I’m happy too when I look at it.  It is more than just a couple ring.

“You wear the ring huh, fiancé?” he asks me with his remarkable smirk.  Remembering last night, that just makes the thing more gauche for both of us, or maybe it is just me.

----------

It was wonderful.  The whole night was filled with astonishing moment for only the two of us.  As though the first time we confessed was repeated.  It was as though I experienced the moment again.  Jonghyun held me in his strong and muscular arm, while we sang the song; A Whole New World.  It was cheesy I had to admit, but who cares?  As long as it was fantastic for me and also for Jonghyun, perhaps.

He brought me on the roof, safely, after we twirling and spinning in the night, shining sky.  I laughed happily.  Nothing was funny.  I was just feeling lighter and happier.  I just wanted to laugh happily with him, enjoyed every second passed tonight.  Especially, with the one I love.  We sat down and he looked at me.

“You are still wearing the necklace I gave you 5 years ago,” he said, looking at my neck while stroking my hair.

“Yeah sure.  How can I forget this?  You gave me right before the deathly war,” I said.  Jonghyun sighed.

“Sabrina, forget it, will you?” Jonghyun said.  I looked into his eyes, searching for an answer, but I knew it was all up to me.  How could I forget?  I won’t.  I just avoided his eyes and looked onto the roof beneath me.

“Sabrina, look.  Just...just...don’t ruin the moment okay?” he asked me while gently stroking my head.  He sat closer to me and I rested my head on his shoulder.

“Jonghyun?  You know how much I love you?” the moment I asked the question, I regretted it.  Jonghyun laughed.  Okay, fine.  That was funny I guessed.

“Yeah I know.  It was more than anything,” Jonghyun said with a small laugh contaminating his voice.

“Yeah, Jonghyun.  That’s funny.  I know.  Laugh until tomorrow morning!” I said as I stood up.  The only thing I wanted to do was to get into my room and sleep.  Avoid him.  That’s it.  It was embarrassing though, somehow the question came out from my mouth.  I cursed my mouth, my tongue, my teeth or anything I was suspecting collaborated to throw out the question just now.

“Sabrina...” he grabbed my wrist.  I turned to face him and rolled my eyes.

“What now, Jonghyun?  I am funny, right?” I asked him as I could see a naughty grin plastered on his face.  Stupid.

“It’s not that, okay?” he said and changed his position.  From sitting, now he was on one of his knees while one of his hands was holding my hand tenderly.  I was shocked and before I could say anything, he began his words that I swear I won’t forget forever, even if I die.

“Will you, Sabrina Kwon Yoo Rin, accept me as your husband for the whole journey of your life?  Will you be my wife that will forever be my other half?” Jonghyun asked, while his left hand held a box with a silver ring in it.  Even though we were under the shimmers of the stars, I could still recognize the shining and the glowing diamond on the ring.

I was startled.  This was the least thing I was expecting from him.  Or maybe, never thought of that.  I lost my words.  Guessed my curse just now came true; I was unable to speak.  I looked at him deep into his eyes, and I could sense the sincerity he tried to give.  Through his soft smile, I could observe earnestness.  But, how could I reply?  The words won’t come out.

“Sabrina, listen here.  In short, will you marry me?” he asked again.  His expression didn’t change.  Still very pure and genuine.

“I do,” with the two magical words, Jonghyun put the ring on my finger.  He kissed my hand and stood up to look into my eyes.

                “We’re...engaged.”

----------

“Morning!!!!!!!!!” the thought replayed in my head shatters.  Again, my eardrums are almost damaged.  Those voices are sure belonged to Minzy and HyunA.  They are loud and always cheerful.  I look at Jonghyun and he looks at me.

This is awkward, holding the title of Jonghyun’s fiancé.  I think I suddenly have this tongue-tied and uncomfortable moment with him.  What the hell am I thinking?  I avoid his gaze this time and I pretend to look for my sister.  She is walking with Taemin, as always, holding hands.  I walk to her.

“Why don’t you wake me up this morning, sis?” I ask.

“Owh...because...I thought you sleep very late last night.  Well...having a very happy night, sis?” the tone she uses is heard very teasingly in my ears.  Does she know we are engaged?  I didn’t tell anybody yet, and I am sure Jonghyun didn’t.

“Yeah...well...seems like,” I say.  Noticing that my sister wants to tease me again, I move quickly to the dining table.

Everybody is busy filling the seat around the table.  The two Minhos, Seunghyun, Key, Hyun Joong, Onew, Taemin, Seraphina, HyunA, Minzy, Sooyoung and Uee, all of them are sitting down, ready for breakfast.  Hyori, Ji Woo, and So Eun are serving before sitting.  Finally, Jonghyun takes up the space left for him beside me.  And the awkward moment begins again.

Jonghyun fills up two bowls with cereals.  He pours the milk as well.  Then, he gives one bowl to me.  I feel more awkward.  It seems like everything is not in the right state for me.  However, I thank him.

“Yours,” he says.

“Thanks,” I reply.  That’s all.  At that moment, I wish I’m not yet Jonghyun’s fiancé.  This is awkward and sort of...embarrassing, if the other know.  What are their reactions once they knew it?  Without thinking too much about it, I eat my cereal without speaking even a word anymore.

“Hyung, pass me that milk,” Taemin asks for milk.  I really want to thank him.  At least, Jonghyun is not communicating with me.  If not, all of them will notice that I’m awkward.

Speaking of which, Taemin is already really matured after five years.  I have to say that he has become a very good stunning boy.  I almost smile seeing he mixes the milk with the raw blood.  His taste on his food still doesn’t change though.  But, at least he never depends on Choi’s food factory anymore.  He knows the exact litres of blood and milk that he needs to mix based on his preference.

“Sabrina, honey.  Why are you so silent?” I skid out of my own thoughts and focus on the dining table.

“Yes, what?” I ask out loud while swear silently in my heart.  Sabrina, you stupid idiot!  How come you go on with your own thought while they are joking and enjoying the breakfast?!

“No, I just wonder why my future-in-law is so silent today.  Are you okay?” asks Hyori very concern.  I just drink my tea to cover myself after spacing out.  But, very ‘fortunate’ of me, suddenly choke on my tea upon hearing the word ‘future-in-law’.  I cough quite badly.  Jonghyun is surprised with that and rubs my back to ease the pain of the fierce cough.

“Oh My God!  You are not well.  Jonghyun, you’re supposed to take care of your soon-to-be wife, aren’t you?” Hyori asks Jonghyun now, while eyeing his son.  I am glad now it is Jonghyun’s turn to be question, not me.  But, still.  Soon-to-be wife?  Yeah, I’m more than happy to hear that, but wrong timing.  Why she chooses to speak of that when we are just engaged?  It is awkward.  I feel uncomfortable because they not yet know that we’re engaged.

I thought Jonghyun is just okay with that, nothing awkward, but then, he is just the same.  More terrible I think.  He accidentally knocks on his own cup of tea and it spills.  Maybe this is the powerful effect of Hyori’s words, ‘soon-to-be wife’.

“What’s wrong with both of you?  One chokes on her own drink, while another one spills his own drink?” Hyori asks us with her brows knitting.

“Nothing!” both of us says synchronously.  That’s cool.  We look at each other before pretend to be busy with our food.

“Honey, leave them alone,” says Hyun Joong.  I give a small glance towards his direction and he gives me a very understanding and fatherly smile.  I feel grateful, but not for long.

“I just ask why.  Something is very wrong with them,” Hyori says and straight away every head is turned into our direction.  What now?  Hyun Joong sighs, perfectly understands our privacy.  So Eun and Ji Woo look at us the same way Hyori did, with narrow eyes like a predator.  Seunghyun and Lee Minho look like they don’t really care.  Uee, HyunA, Sooyoung and Minzy are looking very blank.  Choi Minho is eyeing me suspiciously.  While Onew, Taemin, Key and my sister give us very naughty grins.

“Eat.  Eat.  There’s a lot to eat.  Come on.  It is sumptuous!” Jonghyun comes to rescue when he tries to get us back to our food although I could say, it doesn’t help much.

“Guys, what are there to be hidden?  Just tell them,” Taemin says.  My head jerks up.  Does he know?

“Yeah, I think you forget our powerful hearing when you were having your sweet, lovey-dovey things last night.  Am I right, Onew hyung?” asks Key with a huge smirk.  My eyes are almost coming out from the sockets.  Jonghyun stays very stiff on his chair, as though he has turned to a stone.

“Yeah!” Onew says loudly with a teasing smile.  Oh God!  They gang up on us.  Shoot!

“What?!  What did they do?!  Don’t tell me...” Lee Minho says while looking very worried.

“Both of you lost your virgin?!” Seunghyun says!  Oh God!  Seunghyun thanks a lot to your dirty mind now all of them are gasping.  They look at us, astonished.  Jonghyun clumsily pulls my left hand up.

“No!  We’re just...engaged!  Yeah...engaged!” Jonghyun says with a very innocent grin.  I feel like I want to hug him for rescuing the situation before it get worse.  He shows the diamond silver ring on my left ring finger.  Now, some of them sigh, while some others scream.

“Oh!  I thought they’ve done something they aren’t supposed to do!”

“Really?  Congrats!”

“Is it easier you just tell them before we eat?”

“I know this day will come, in-law!”

The whole table is a chaos after Jonghyun announces our engagement.  I’m happy but my cheeks are already red.  Those comments from the whole families make me pleased, at the same time, very embarrassed.  But, gratefully, the awkward moment between Jonghyun and I is slightly gone.

“T-Thanks,” I stutter after receiving the never-ending congrats from all of them.  Today’s breakfast is surely disastrous.

“Very well, then.  But, whatever it is, I will get married before you Jonghyun.  Don’t try to arrange that before my date,” Onew says with a warning.  Yeah, surely Onew, we won’t.  He is going to married Jiyeon very soon, in two weeks time.

“Speaking of which, when are you planning to get married?  When is the date?” Uee asks.  Again, thanks Uee, all of them are looking at us.

I look at Jonghyun, and he looks back at me blankly.  We blink a few times while staring at each other.  Jonghyun tries to get the answer for me.  Noticing it has been too long with silence, he answers hesitantly.

“Err...s-soon,” his turn to stutter.  Cool.  I nudge him right at his left rib as I glare at him.  He looks at me.

“But, not very soon,” he is correcting his word this time without looking at the others.  He only focuses on me, perhaps seeking for assurance that is surely I can’t give.  Catastrophic!
